McKinney is a city located in Collin County, Texas, approximately 30 miles north of downtown Dallas. Known for its historic downtown area, family-friendly community, and beautiful parks, McKinney has a rich history. Founded in 1848 and named after Collin McKinney, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, the city initially relied on agriculture for its economy. After World War II, it diversified into industry and manufacturing. As of January 1, 2024, McKinney has a population of approximately 214,810 residents, making it the 15th most populous city in Texas and the 110th most populous in the United States. The historic downtown area has been the city's core since its founding, featuring charming streets, unique shops, and a variety of delicious restaurants. Additionally, the city boasts numerous parks equipped with picnic pavilions, playgrounds, and open spaces; Erwin Park even includes two repair stations for mountain bikes. Located along the Texas-Oklahoma border, Lake Texoma offers residents opportunities for watersports, fishing, and other recreational activities. Many McKinney residents commute to work in nearby Dallas or Plano, which are situated to the south of the city.
